SelfCentered CoParenting Managing an Unccoperative CoParent Kathleen Bird 9780998732114 Books Reviews
This powerful book has a great combination of new information and meaningful basics. The nine Appendix sections add a significant content and insight. This book is a positive resource for struggling parents.
As a counselor I see parents who are trying to do the best for their children. This book gives tools and insights on how to be a strong and consistent parent with out without the help of the co-parent. It is a good read for all parents.
As an attorney and mediator, I have been at a loss to direct some parents to a good resource for themselves when they are dealing with a former partner who wants to fight instead of find a way to cooperate and co-parent effectively. This book is a great place to send them for practical ideas, broken down into five subparts that will assist them in finding a path to peace for themselves and their children. The checklists and other tips are easy to absorb and use for the lay person who needs a path after a difficult break-up.
As a mediator who has never found a good resource for the parent who faces resistance at every turn from their former partner and now co-parent, I was happy to find this great resource to refer them to in the future. It is written with a bit of humor, lots of common sense, and is easy to read and absorb by the lay person who is frustrated trying to do the best for the children without constant fighting with the other parent. It has great checklists and practical advice from a trained mediator who has really discovered a path for the frustrated parent.
Helpful information, but lots of grammatical errors.
This book directly addresses many of the real life conflicts divorced parents struggle with and provides guidance on how a frustrated parent can move forward by focusing on what IS in their control. Good checklists and examples throughout. This book can help parents reduce conflict, save costs, and most importantly, maintain a strong relationship with their child.
When all the tips of the other co-parenting books just don't work - this is the last stop and there's great advice on what to do if you've done everything else and the other parent just will not step up and co-parent with you. Clear, easy to read, realistic advice.
Kathleen Bird is clearly an expert in family mediation. She advises divorced parents on how to control their own actions and responses when the other parent is not cooperative. Lawyers practicing family law and parents involved in difficult child custody and support issues would do well to read this book and keep it handy.
